KJP Angry Once Again
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre expressed her frustration on Tuesday when questioned about President Joe Biden’s cognitive health. The controversy arose on Sunday when Biden, during an address in Las Vegas, claimed to have spoken with François Mitterrand after winning the presidency, a statement debunked as Mitterrand passed away in 1996. The official transcript was later amended to reflect that the president intended to refer to the current French president, Emmanuel Macron.
During the press briefing, Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy queried Jean-Pierre about how this incident aligns with the narrative of Biden’s mental fitness. Doocy asked, “How is President Biden going to reassure the three-quarters of voters concerned about his physical and mental health, especially after recounting a conversation with a French president who died in 1996?” Jean-Pierre, visibly annoyed, avoided delving into the topic and attempted to move on to another reporter.
Persisting, Doocy questioned, “Why avoid it? He mentioned talking to Mitterrand.” In response, Jean-Pierre vaguely remarked, “You saw the president in Vegas, in California, in South Carolina, in Michigan. I’ll just leave it there,” abruptly cutting off further inquiries.
Jean-Pierre’s terseness in handling questions might have been influenced by an earlier query from Doocy challenging the Biden administration’s assertion that congressional Republicans bear responsibility for the border crisis. Doocy pointedly asked, “You talk about the border crisis being resolved if Congress passed your immigration bill on Day 1. Who was in charge of Congress on Day 1?” Had Jean-Pierre answered truthfully, she would have acknowledged Democratic control during the initial two years of Biden’s presidency. However, she deflected blame onto House Republicans, prompting Doocy to follow up, “So the Democrats in charge the first two years have no responsibility?” Jean-Pierre insisted, “I’m not saying Democrats haven’t been in control the first two years; I’m saying House Republicans have obstructed.”
