Sarah Matthews Donates
Sarah Matthews, a former staff member of ex-President Trump, defied Trump’s recent warning against supporting Nikki Haley’s presidential campaign by making a donation on Wednesday. Matthews, who served as deputy press secretary in the Trump White House from June 2020 to January 2021, posted on X (formerly Twitter), urging others to join her in contributing to Haley’s campaign.
This move comes in response to Trump’s call to prevent Haley donors from aligning with the “MAGA camp,” which revolves around his 2016 campaign slogan “Make America Great Again.” Trump announced that individuals making contributions to Haley’s campaign would be permanently excluded from the MAGA camp, asserting that he does not want or accept their support because his priority is putting America first.
Matthews, critical of Trump since resigning over the Capitol attack on January 6, 2021, hinted that she might support President Biden in the general election if Trump becomes the GOP nominee, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing democracy over policy. She was also among the former White House staff members who testified to the House select committee investigating the insurrection.
Trump’s effort to dissuade voters from backing Haley occurred after his victory in the New Hampshire primary, where he led by approximately 11 percentage points, according to Decision Desk HQ. He also directed criticism at Kayleigh McEnany, a former press secretary under the Trump administration, for offering advice on uniting the Republican Party during a Fox News segment, stating that he doesn’t need advice from “RINO” Kayleigh McEnany and suggesting she save her advice for Nikki Haley.
